Debajehmujig Theatre Group

Debajehmujig Theatre Group is a non-profit community based professional theatre with its home base on the Wikwemikong Unceded Indian Reserve on Manitoulin Island. It is the only Professional theatre company in Canada operating on a reserve today.

Debajehmujig recently opened a 14000 square foot training and production facility to house its year round operations making it the only Native theatre company in the
country to own and operate their own facility.

The company offers professional theatre productions year round with their main stage season being in the summer months of July and August. You can catch a performance in the evenings at the beautiful outdoor venue of Holy Cross Mission Ruins in Wikwemikong, or in the afternoon at the new facility located at 43 Queen street in Manitowaning.

In addition to the professional main stage activities the company also creates custom performances to meet the specific needs of communities, organizations, conferences
or gatherings etc…

Debajehmujig also offers a three year training program (National Aboriginal Arts Animator Program) for emerging Aboriginal artists to further develop their skills. Having been established in 1984 Debajehmujig is one of the longest running Aboriginal theatre companies in Canada and performs, locally, nationally, and internationally.
